The project EMI (Business Start-up, Migration, Integration<\/b><\/a>)<\/b><\/a> <\/strong>at its event “Migrants: Founding and Living in Magdeburg” on 10 April, the event provided a successful interim balance sheet: since its launch in 2015<\/strong>, 38 business start-ups have been effectively supported and more than 600 migrants have been sensitized to the topic of self-employment. A hopeful outlook<\/strong> was also given at the artistically framed celebration in Magdeburg’s St. John’s Church. Saxony-Anhalt’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs, J\u00fcrgen Ude, presented a grant notification for financial support until the end of the 2021 funding period. <\/p>\n Of the 38 business founders, nine were women and 29 were men. Their countries of origin<\/strong> include Syria (most frequently), Russia, Spain, Afghanistan and Greece. The range of sectors<\/strong> that were enriched by the start-ups is broad: They include trading companies, catering businesses, a hairdressing salon and even a Mongolian yurt rental company. <\/p>\n EMI project manager and Managing Director of ePlan consult GmbH, Elena Herrmann, explained how the commitment<\/strong> will be continued<\/strong>. As examples, she mentioned tried and tested offers such as open consultation hours, individual coaching and language courses on “Business German”. There are also plans for start-up camps and start-up fairs, and a migrant network specifically for entrepreneurs and freelancers is to be established. <\/p>\n
